Planned Giving

Growing care for future generations

Since 1891, Aspen Valley Hospital has provided exceptional, life-saving care for patients.

Help us strengthen over 131 years of service to the community and more by establishing a planned gift with Aspen Valley Hospital Foundation.

There are many ways to leave a legacy to support Aspen Valley Hospital Foundation and care for patients that also offer financial and tax benefits to you and your family. You may be able to save income, capital gains tax and estate taxes on these types of gifts.

Please note that every gift requires planning and every planned gift counts – no matter the amount. It is helpful to know if you have included Aspen Valley Hospital in your estate plans for our future planning and to inspire others to do so as well. We would love to say thank you and to invite you to join our Legacy Society and enjoy its benefits.

Jan Jennings, Director of Planned Giving, is ready to help you and work with your financial, tax and legal advisors to explore which gift(s) may work best for your circumstances. There is no obligation when considering a planned gift, just an opportunity to see how you can leave a legacy and care for your family and loved ones. Please contact Jan at 970-544-1340 or email her at jjennings@shengqifc.com for more information.

An IRA Charitable Rollover Gift / Qualified Charitable Distribution

If you are over age 70 ½, an easy way to help Aspen Valley Hospital Foundation is to make a tax-free charitable rollover gift from your Traditional Individual Retirement Account (IRA).

You may save taxes.  This gift is also called a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD).

You pay no income taxes on the withdrawal from your IRA account if you transfer it directly to Aspen Valley Hospital Foundation. The transfer does not generate taxable income or an income tax deduction

Gifts of up to $105,000 can be excluded from your gross income and will count towards your required minimum distribution (RMD).

The gift from your IRA must be transferred directly from your IRA custodian to Aspen Valley Hospital Foundation. Please contact Jan Jennings at jjennings@shengqifc.com or at 970.544.1340 for more information on how to make this gift.

A Gift of Real Estate

You can take care of yourself and take care of the Aspen Valley Hospital Foundation (AVHF) with a gift of real estate.

You may be able to donate a home, commercial property or investment property. By donating all or part of your property to AVHF, you may be able to save capital gains tax, receive an income tax deduction, and receive income for life. In some cases you may even be able to continue to use or live on the property.  Please contact Jan Jennings to discuss all potential gifts of real estate at 970-544-1340 or at jjennings@shengqifc.com for more information.

An Outright Gift

A gift of real estate may be given now to AVHF.

A Trust that Pays Lifetime Income

A gift of mortgage-free real estate to fund a charitable trust can pay you income for life (or for a term of years) and leave a gift for the AVHF.

A Retained Life Estate

You may be able to give your personal residence (a house, cabin or ranch) to AVHF and continue to live there rent-free for the rest of your life or a term of years. In exchange, you receive an immediate income tax deduction. Your property will pass to AVHF after your lifetime.

A Gift through Your Life Insurance Policy

You can name the Aspen Valley Hospital Foundation as a primary beneficiary of your life insurance policy or as contingent beneficiary should your other beneficiaries not survive you.

You can also irrevocably donate your paid-up life insurance policy. Please contact Jan Jennings about making this type of gift.

Gifts That Pay Income

Charitable Remainder Trusts

You can donate cash, appreciated stocks or mortgage-free real estate to fund a charitable remainder trust that in return pays you (and your spouse) income for life, saves income and capital gains taxes, and also leaves a gift for the Aspen Valley Hospital Foundation after your lifetime. You can also have the trust pay you income for a period of years, after which the remainder goes to the Aspen Valley Hospital Foundation.

Charitable Lead Trusts

A Charitable Lead Trust is a gift of cash or other property to an irrevocable trust. The Aspen Valley Hospital Foundation receives an income stream from the trust for a term of years or for the life of the donor(s). Depending on how the trust is structured, you can enjoy a current income, gift or estate tax deduction on the donated assets. After the Charitable Lead Trust terminates, the remaining assets are distributed to the non-charitable beneficiaries. A Charitable Lead Trust allows you to make annual gifts to the Aspen Valley Hospital Foundation, while transferring assets to yourself or your heirs in the future at a reduced or even zero estate or gift tax cost.

Aspen Valley Hospital Foundation Legacy Society

When you confirm that you have made a planned gift, we invite you to join a special circle of benefactors who have named Aspen Valley Hospital Foundation in their estate plans by including us in their will, trust, retirement plan, life insurance policy or have established a charitable remainder trust.

Benefits include an annual reception for AVHF Legacy Society benefactors, special recognition in Healthy Journeys (our bi-annual magazine), and an Insider’s Letter.

Please let Jan Jennings know if you have made a planned gift by contacting her at jjennings@shengqifc.com or at (970) 544-1340 so she can enroll you in our AVHF Legacy Society.

We are grateful that you are considering establishing a planned gift. The Aspen Valley Hospital Foundation is a tax-exempt nonprofit organization under section 501(c)(3) of Internal Revenue Code. Gifts may be tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Please consult with your own tax, legal or financial advisor before making a gift to ensure the gift best fits your circumstances.
